Brutalist Type Glyph Structure

2022

Brief

For this project, I designed a modular type glyph based on the lowercase “d,” taking inspiration from the Calatrava Sciences Museum in Spain (by Santiago Calatrava Valls). I explored a shape that, when viewed as a whole, felt like the architecture itself while still keeping the curved feel of the letter.

The final piece was built using relief and styrofoam cement techniques, creating a brutalist structure that blends both type and architecture in a tactile, hands-on way.

Tools Used:

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Adobe Illustrator

  • Cement

  • Styrofoam

  • PVC Board

  • Duct Tape
